About Meiji Jingu Forest Festival of Art

名和晃平 スローン

“Meiji Jingu Forest Festival of Art” is a celebration of art and culture set in the forests surrounding Meiji Shrine. With exhibitions, events and much more, the festival will focus on the deep relationship between Japanese art and culture, and the natural world.
March 20, 2020 – end of March, 2021, Meiji Shrine (Inner & Outer) and other venues.

In 2020, Meiji Shrine will celebrate its centennial.
To mark our first steps into the next one hundred years, and with the sacred forests of Meiji Shrine as its venue, we are proud to present a festival of arts and culture, “Meiji Jingu Forest Festival of Art”. We have chosen the theme “Celebrate, Pray, Create”, and with the sacred forests as its venue, we hope the festival will help in reconsidering the relationship between Japanese arts and culture and nature, and introduce a uniquely Japanese aesthetic to the world.
Outdoor sculpture exhibitions in serene natural surroundings, art shows, contemporary culture programs and many more events will be held throughout the year. And running parallel to these there will also be programs to support regional promotion and revitalization activities in disaster struck areas, and send a message of prayer to the world.
